So you think yourBaldur’s Gate 3character is tough? You’ll soon be able to put that to the test in the first-everBG3player-versus-player tournament.Baldur’s Gate 3has never been known for its PVP. Although it’s technically possible throughthe game’s co-op multiplayerfunctionality, it’s certainly not the main focus. That still hasn’t stopped players from trying, but for the first time ever, you’re able to put your skills to the test with a cash prize on the line.
YouTuberVludberis holding what is, at least as far as we know,the first-everBaldur’s Gate 3PVP tournament: Vludber’s Faerun Championship. Although the video is entirely in Russian, many of the details are translated in a Reddit post byPalpatinChezh. Registration has already begun, and at least 64 players have already signed up. The winner of the tournament will receive a cash prize of $1,250.

The Rules & Regulations
The tournament will take place over three rounds, each with its ownlevel and item requirements. First is a duel between level four players, using only Uncommon-rarity items; next, between level eight players with Rare items; and finally, level twelve players with any item from the vanilla game. Contenders win by eliminating their opponents within 12 turns. The first player to win two out of three bouts in each matchup will be promoted to the next round.
Of course,there are some additional rules to be considered: a group of judges will determine who wins in the case of a stalemate after 12 turns. Modded gear, spells, and abilities are naturally banned, and you may only use the healing potions provided to you in each round of the competition. Whilemulticlassing is allowed, respeccing with Withers isn’t. Certain aspects of the game have been rebalanced, and certain skills are prohibited.
Unfortunately, the Google Form for registering seems to be closed at the time of writing; it’s unclear whether it’ll be brought back up before the tournament takes place. However, even if you may’t participate, it’s expected thatyou’ll still be able to watch along, as the tournament will be streamed live on Twitch and YouTube. Our Take: Fan-Run Tournaments Can Be A Lot Of Fun If Managed Well
Good Moderation Is A Necessity
Ultimately, while we’re still waiting for certain details of the tournament to be revealed, it sounds like a lot of fun.Fan-operated tournaments like this one can be really entertaining; it’s always fun to see what kinds ofwacky new buildsthe min-maxers are using. You might even find yourself getting invested in a particular contender and rooting for them all the way through.
That said, fan-operated tournaments are still fan-operated; they need to be run cautiously, with good moderation and strict rule enforcement, to ensure there’s no funny business. Thankfully, it seems like Vludber has thought of all these things - the rules are pretty extensive and inflexible, so as long as they’re enforced effectively and everything runs smoothly on the technical side, this could be one for the books. I’ll certainly be tuning into the first-everBaldur’s Gate 3PVP tournament.
