Everyone has the most powerful item inStardew Valleyalready - it came free with your farm house. You’ve probably heard enough aboutStardew Valley’s most powerful sword, or its rarest crops, or its handiest farm structures. These are all well and good, and can do you a lot of favors if you get them at the right time and use them properly.
But you might be surprised to know that you already had the most powerful item in all ofStardew Valleyfrom the moment you started the game. It’s not hidden in your inventory, though -it’s actually part of the standard farm house decor.
Stardew Valley’s Most Powerful Item Is A Simple Chair
The Oak Chair Is OP
The bog-standardOak Chairthat you have in your house from the very beginning ofStardew Valleyis secretly the most powerful item in the game. Every single farm house comes with this unassuming chair, regardless ofwhich farm type you choose.
The reason the Oak Chair is so overpowered is thatit can be used to trigger a wide variety of exploitsthat allow you to skip over barriers imposed on you by the game. In general, whenStardewdoesn’t want you to get your hands on a particularly powerful item (like theGolden Scythe) or useful resource (likeHardwood) until you’ve made a certain amount of progress, it’ll put a physical barrier in your way: a giant log, or a broken bridge.
Normally,you may only surmount these obstacles by progressing in the game. Upgrading your axe will eventually net you a powerful enough tool to break that giant log, while completingCommunity Center or JojaMartobjectives will eventually see that broken bridge repaired.
But because of the flexible rules for placing furniture, you can place the chair well outside your walkable range. These exploits generally require you toplace the chair somewhere you can’t ordinarily reach. After that, simply sit in the chair, and you’ll pass right over the obstacle. Get up, take the chair with you, and you’re good to go.
Everything You Can Do With The Chair
Breaking & Entering, The Secret Woods, & More
Perhaps the most common use of the chair exploit is toget into the Secret Woods early. Simply place it on the left side of the giant hardwood log, then sit on it to skip over it. This will earn you a reliable source of hardwood a little earlier than usual.
In most cases, you can use the same exploit in reverse to get out of areas you’re not supposed to be in yet.
you’re able to also use the chair exploit to get inside various characters' bedroomsbefore you know them well enough to barge right in. Just place the chair in their open doorway, hop on, and hop off the other side. You can use this method toget your hands on Mayor Lewis' shortswithout putting in too much work with Marnie.
Finally, you can also use the chair to force yourself out of bounds where the cart tracks end in the mine, then walk around to the quarry mine. If you manage to survive this dangerous passage, you can grab the Golden Scythe early, andeven head to the Quarrybefore it’s naturally unlocked. Do note, though, that you won’t be able to leave the quarry; you’ll have to stay there until you pass out.
Even so, this glitch, exploit, bug - whatever you want to call it - is incredibly useful, and can get you some decent items before you’d normally be able to pick them up. By itself, the Oak Chair may not be able to do much, but it can help you get some of the best items inStardew Valley, and that’s what makes it so powerful.
