Earlier this year, amusic-related trend called the Hozier Yell (among other terms) went viral on the social media app TikTok. The meme involves the use of a snippet from Vermont-based folk-pop singer-songwriterNoah Kahan’sStick Seasonsong “Northern Attitude” (featuring musician Hozier), during which an extended harmonic yell from Hozieris used to soundtrack moments of inspiration or awe.

While we’ve already discussedthe hidden meanings behind some of Hozier’s songs, TikTok meme aside,Kahan is worthy of his own headlines. He’s already been labeled as one of themodern folk artists completely transforming the genre, and hisStick SeasonLP would be right at home with albumsthat will completely change your view of modern folk.

Headshot Of Noah Kahan

Noah Kahan Is One Of Folk’s Biggest Artists To Watch

His Star Just Keeps On Rising

Kahan got started young in music, writing songs and posting them online by age 8, and receiving his first guitar at 10. By the time Kahan turned 19, he went on his first concert tour and released his first album in 2019. As 2022 rolled around, Kahan had dropped two albums and an EP of material, but wasn’t hugely successful.

That would all change for the better with his 2022 LP, entitledStick Season. The albumnot only reached the Billboard charts for the first time in Kahan’s career, but also allowed him to work with artists like Post Malone, Gracie Abrams, the aforementioned Hozier, and Kacey Musgraves on a deluxe version of the record.

In 2024, Kahan released another expanded edition ofStick Seasonthat featured further collaborations with singer-songwriters Brandi Carlile and Gregory Alan Isakov. Following a live album calledLive from Fenway Parkat the end of that year, it left many fans wonderingwhen would Kahan’s next original studio material be coming out?

Kahan’s Actively Working On His Next Album

Details Are Still Currently Sparse

Noah Kahanhas given some online hints that possibly indicatehis next album is in progress. Earlier this year, he mentioned that a fan-favorite track called “The Great Divide” had been officially recorded and was “sounding special.” A song called “Wreckage of You” (that may be a duet with musician Bon Iver) was also teased at the end of 2024.

A release date and tracklist for the as-yet-unnamed projectare still TBA as of this writing. There’s certainly no lack of pressure on Kahan and his creative process given the breakout success ofStick Season, so perhaps the artist is rightly giving the work sufficient time to gestate before he lets it loose into the world.
